Learn To Scuba Dive

Few sporting activities offer the variety of experiences, excitement and adventure that learning to scuba dive in Melbourne and Victoria can. As you will soon discover, completion of your PADI Open Water Diver training is just the start of your diving career. Diving is one of the most rewarding activities human beings can engage in - from exploring the micro ecosystems around the piers and shores of Port Phillip Bay and WesternPort to exploring world class shipwrecks and gliding across tropical coral reefs bursting with a rainbow of marine life.

There is a distinct difference between someone learning to dive and someone becoming “a diver for life.” Through the PADI Open Water Diver program, you will complete the course not just with the ability to recite facts about diving or “perform” skills, but you will have the information and know-how you need to become a diver. Once you accomplish the goal of becoming a diver, you will b ready to explore a world few people ever have the opportunity to see creatures both great and small, suspended effortlessly in liquid space, dazzled by a bold new world that fills your senses you will participate in the great undersea adventure with all its drama and magnificence.

The PADI Open Water Diver Certification

The Open Water Diver program is the entry level SCUBA diving course qualifying you to dive almost anywhere in the world to a maximum depth of 18metres with a certified dive buddy who has an equivalent or higher level of certification.

The Open Water course is designed to teach you competency and comfort underwater through a philosophy we call comfort through repetition. Once certified you will be awarded the prestigious PADI Open Water certification which is recognised and respected by dive centres, tour operators and resorts globally. From here you can really start to experience the underwater world as you explore diving through our club social dives, dive tours and further your training with one of more of the many specialty courses such as Night Diving, Wreck Diving, Deep Diving, Waves, Tides & Currents (Drift Diving) and more.

About The Course

Stage 1- Online Academic Training and e-Learning

Your Open Water diving course is broken down into four stages of training; beginning with the independent home study component which is completed online and at your own pace and is available either on the web or via the PADI Touch App available on all Android and iOS devices. You can even begin your PADI Open Water Diver course right now. Simply SignUp for PADI E-Learning right here.

Stage 2- Academic Review & Pool Training

The next stage in your Open Water Diver program is to attend your first session with your instructor. This first session begins with a review of the information covered in your online home study before heading to the pool. At the pool you will learn and master the skills required to become a safe and confident diver. Your instructor will explain and demonstrate each skill before you complete and demonstrate the skill to the instructor. During the pool training you will also be given plenty of time to practice these skills and ask any questions until you are 100% confident and comfortable.

Stage 3- Shore Based Open Water Dives

Now that your Academic and Pool training sessions have been completed, it's time for you to experience diving in the Open Water environment. You will put the knowledge and skills learned during your academic and pool training sessions into practice during three shore based training dives with your instructor. These shore dives are completed at one or more of the many spectacular pier dive sites around the Mornington Peninsula and will vary depending on conditions on the day but might include Flinders Jetty, Rye or Portsea Piers.

Stage 4- Open Water Boat Dives

Your Open Water training culminates during this final stage of your course; where you will complete your first boat dive which departs from Portsea. Once you have completed this day successfully, you will be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver; qualified to dive to a maximum dept of 18metres and ready to explore the world beneath the waves, join in on club social dives, book onto dive tours as well as rent and purchase your own SCUBA diving equipment. You also have the option to complete additional dives; either boat or shore on this day at a reduced rate (have a chat with one of the dive crew or your instructor for more information).
